ABOUT URCC

URCC FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is URCC?

The Universal Reality Combat Championship, better known as URCC, is the country's first, biggest and most prestigious professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event featuring various martial arts experts. The URCC aims to find the best homegrown Filipino fighters and eventually showcase their skills to the world. The URCC is governed and sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) of the Philippines. The URCC has also brought in other international fighters from China, Brazil, Guam and Japan. This year, the URCC will be sending some of its fighters to Guam to participate in the country's local MMA event as part of our efforts to continue relations with other countries, and to also help promote our homegrown MMA fighters all over the world.

What is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)?

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a combative sport that combines aspects from many different martial arts. Competitors are often skilled in Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and many more effective fighting arts that involves both striking and grappling. Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) dates back to the ancient Greek Olympic Games in Athens where it was known as Pankration. In the 1920's, it again became popular in Brazil known as "Vale Tudo," and later on in Japan where these fights were held as major events. Today MMA is more modified because there are rules and safety precautions being implemented in the game, unlike pure No Holds Barred (NHB) fighting which consist of "no rules" at all.

How do I get involve in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)?

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is growing every day. There are now schools and gyms teaching Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) all across the world. Mainly in Brazil, USA and Japan.

Is this type of fighting brutal? Why is it considered as a sport?

For some people that are not familiar with Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), they might consider the sport as a brutal and awkward game similar to No Holds Barred (NHB) fighting, because of the variations that a fighter may execute during a bout. It is now considered as a sport because of the modifications and safety precautions being implemented in the game, and fighters are bound to abide to the new set of rules. (Please see URCC Official "Rules")

Who are the organizers of the URCC?
